Original WWI 1st Division Citation Certificate:  Official United States Army, First Infantry Division General Order 1, January 1, 1920 Certificate to RAYMOND G. BUCKLEY: Private, Company B, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Division. Extract No.11828, WIA in the Soissons Offensive, July 19, 1918. Very Good Condition, with a few edge chips and some minor moisture stains.  An attractive and somewhat controversial G.O. that took many Wounded in Action Soldiers to a Silver Star qualification once the Silver Star Medal was instituted in 1932.  Prior to that the only decoration under a DSC (Distinguished Service Cross) was a Citation Star, similar to the British MID (Mention in Dispatch) award to be worn on the Victory Medal Ribbon, and this was clearly the intent.  But when the medal was created, it retroactively qualified each recipient for the Silver Star Medal created as a Gallantry Award, a step under the DSC in the Pyramid of Honor.

WWI Rainbow Division Columbia Document:  United States Army Memorial Accolade to Private James Mattingly, who was the first soldier to die in service with Company D, 168th Infantry Regiment in WWI.  He passed away while in training, and prior to the unit being shipped to France.  Overall condition is in very good to excellent condition, and unfolded, with some minor water marks in the margins.  It could be an interesting research project. (Coming to eBay)

WWI Rainbow Division Columbia Document:  United States Army Memorial Accolade to Private Dale Trailor, who was Wounded in Action Twice, with Company F, 168th Infantry Regiment in WWI.  Overall condition is solid, and unfolded, but has been cropped for framing in the margins.  This was a common practice for framing these large format documents.  It could be an interesting research project. (Coming to eBay)

WWI Memorial Document:  United States Army "In Memory of Private George W. Kuebler Co D. P&S(?) G.H.2.(?) who died March 30, 1919...".  This is unusual in that we can't figure out the unit in which he was attached, but am guessing it was some kind of General Headquarters with the AEF.  While it is possible that he died of wounds, it is also possible that disease took him.  An interesting, and original period printed American Memorial document with John J. Pershing printed signature. Overall condition is sound, and unfolded, but it does have some water staining in lower left corner.  It could be an interesting research project. ($35) View1, View2

African-American Illinois National Guard Officer's Documents:  Nice Trio of Officer's Commission Docs to John P. Meadows, from the 8th Illinois Infantry during the late 1920s and Early 1930s.  Lt. Meadows was most likely a WWI Veteran, and commissioned in the ILNG (Illinois National Guard) and The Army of the United States between the World Wars.  The set includes an AUS 2nd Lt. Commission from 1928 & Both the 1st Lt. Commissions from ILNG & AUS.  These are beautiful original documents with the large format State of IL Commission.  All are in clean solid condition minor foxing and typical signs of age.  All could be nicely matted and framed for an interesting display, and worthy of further research.

Korean War Officer's Posthumous Document Group:  Outstanding Document Group to a 70th Tank Battalion Officer.  2nd Lt. Warren C. Littlefield was Killed in Action on September 15, 1950.  Littlefield had recently graduated from the U.S. Military Academy (Class of 1950), and just gotten married before shipping overseas for service.  Littlefield was one of 157 West Point Graduates to died in the Korean War.  A personal friend of his family was the well respected Dean of the Univ. of Iowa's Law School, and wrote his Memorial Article for the WP Archives.  This gives an excellent account of 2nd Lt. Littlefield's life.  It is a truly American Story.  This group includes the following original documents:  Purple Heart Certificate Dated 11/13/50,  Bronze Star Certificate dated 9/21/51, Truman Memorial Accolade, 2nd Lt. Officer's Commission dated 6/2/50.  All Documents are in Mint Original Condition, and these are much harder to find than the WWII equivalents.  PH Cert, BS Cert, Accolade, Commission

WWI Era English Aviation Photographs:  Original images of planes in the British Isles sector during the war it appears.  Each has a period hand written description of the image.  One is of a D.H.9 Crash Site with the plane, pilot, and location identified (3.5" x 5" approx.).  The other is of an R.E.8 taken from a D.H.6 Flying over the English countryside (3.5" x 4.5" approx.), both near Stamford.  Great Original Photography. WWI Original Machine Gun Unit Panographic Photograph:  Great 8” x 26” Company Size Panographic Photograph taken in Germany.  This is Company C,  8th Machine Gun Battalion, 3rd Division AEF.  All men are wearing their Overseas Caps, and you can clearly see Patches, Ribbon Bars (DSC’s, CdG’s, Etc.), Collar Disks, Overseas Strips, Etc.  The photo is marked “Baekfrom? Germany. Co. C. 8th Mach.Gun Batt.  3rd (Marne) Division.”  This unit saw VERY heavy action. (Aisne, Champaign-Marne, Ainse-Marne, St.Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Defensive Sectors)  Condition of the pano is VERY good, with only one slight crease in the far right field(approx.2" tall), and no foxing.  This lot also includes a small (3.5”x4.5”) photo of an unidentified soldier, this has some foxing.   It came with the lot, but I can not be sure if he is from the unit.
