Second Balkan War Medal – 1913: This has the proper wreath suspension. Silver Medal with a nicely aged patina, edge marked "C". The medal was issued in recognition of service by military and civilian personnel who fought in the Second Balkan War (1913), as well as to civil servants in the army. In 1914 the medal was also awarded to regimental flags, military schools and warships, and it is possible that this is such a type. The obverse features a crowned eagle holding a sword and scepter, with a round medallion on its chest bearing King Carol I's effigy and a Rumanian inscription which translates "CAROL 1 - KING OF ROMANIA. A further inscription reads "TO THE LOFTY UPSURGE OF 1913." The reverse features the Romanian Army crossing the Danube River over a pontoon bridge, with peaks of the Balkan mountains in the background. Winged Victory floats over the army, and there is a further inscription which translates "FROM THE CARPATHIANS ACROSS THE DANUBE TO THE BALKANS." Excellent condition, on a later replacement ribbon for the War Cross. (SOLD) View
